FAQ – Practical Lab Skills: Behind the Test Tube

What is this course?
This is an intensive, hands-on chemistry laboratory course for students interested in chemistry, medicine, or engineering. Students carry out experiments including synthesis, purification, titration, and spectroscopy in a supervised laboratory environment.

Who is the course suitable for?
The course is suitable for students who are typically 15–17 years old, have a strong GCSE Chemistry background, are motivated and able to follow instructions carefully, and are considering A-level Chemistry or university-level science.

Is the laboratory work safe?
Yes. Safety is a priority. All work is supervised, students receive a safety induction, experiments are risk assessed, eye protection is worn at all times, and clear procedures are in place for incidents.

What will my child learn?
Students develop confidence in laboratory work, precision in techniques, understanding of analytical methods, and scientific reasoning and problem-solving.

How is progress assessed?
Assessment is based on lab technique, accuracy, analysis and evaluation, and professionalism. There are no formal exams.

Will my child receive a certificate?
Yes. Students receive a Certificate of Completion recognising advanced practical training.

How does this help with future study?
It helps students prepare for A-levels and university-level chemistry and strengthens academic applications.
