Last term was a busy and inspiring one for our students, filled with opportunities to stretch their thinking, explore future pathways, and experience academic life beyond the classroom.
Our A-level Economics students spent a day at Warwick University, where they took part in a series of engaging lectures that showcased economics in action. Topics ranged from monopoly power in the UK, to how rational our decisions really are, and new research into measuring happiness. Alongside the academic content, students also gained valuable insight into university life, careers in economics, and received useful tips for A-level exam success — making the visit both informative and motivating.
We also celebrated the achievements of Chloe, Lenny, Christian and Sophia, who represented the school in the Senior Maths Challenge. They tackled a range of demanding problems that tested their logic and problem-solving skills, showing great resilience and determination throughout. A strong effort on some very challenging questions — well done to all involved.
In November, a group of students returned to Warwick University to attend an exciting public lecture by Simon Singh, one of the UK’s most well-known and best-selling maths authors. Famous for works such as Fermat’s Last Theorem, The Code Book, and The Simpsons and Their Mathematical Secrets, Simon Singh delivered a captivating talk titled “From Theorems to Serums, from Cryptography to Cosmology… and the Simpsons”. Through humour, storytelling and fascinating ideas, the lecture brought mathematics to life and left students inspired and thoroughly entertained.
These experiences highlight NatMatSci’s commitment to providing students with enriching opportunities beyond the curriculum — encouraging curiosity, academic confidence, and a deeper appreciation for where their studies can take them.
