Celebrating Nursing at NatMatSci
This week, we gathered as a college community to celebrate and say farewell to Anne-Marie, our wonderful College Nurse at The National Mathematics and Science College, as she prepares for her well-earned retirement after more than 20 years in her Nursing career.
Anne-Marie joined NatMatSci in September 2022 as our very first College Nurse, quickly becoming a trusted and valued presence for both students and staff. Her calm, supportive approach and wealth of experience have made a lasting impact on our community in a relatively short time.
To mark her retirement, the staff surprised Anne-Marie with a relaxed afternoon tea—an opportunity to reflect on her incredible career and to thank her for all she has contributed to college life.
A Lifelong Dedication to Care
Anne-Marie’s career in nursing has been truly exceptional. She began her training at the age of 18 in North Manchester and qualified as a Registered Nurse at 21. Soon after, she moved to London to complete a specialist Neurosurgical course and went on to become a ward sister at the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases, where she cared for patients with multiple sclerosis and rare neurological disorders.
Her passion for supporting people in their working lives led her to complete a Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing. Over the next 20 years, Anne-Marie made significant contributions to occupational health in a wide range of settings, including Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, the NHS, the BBC, the Post Office, and the Police headquarters in Leicester. In these roles, she provided crucial advice and support to staff, helping to manage both physical and mental health needs in the workplace.
Anne-Marie also undertook counselling training and worked with primary-aged children facing behavioural challenges, further demonstrating her commitment to supporting wellbeing across all age groups.
Before joining NatMatSci, Anne-Marie worked in school nursing across Aylesbury Vale, delivering vaccination programmes, promoting student health, and playing an active role in child protection initiatives.
A Legacy at NatMatSci
As our first College Nurse, Anne-Marie has set the standard for pastoral care at NatMatSci. Her ability to offer thoughtful, practical support has been deeply appreciated by both students living away from home and the wider college staff. She has helped build a culture of wellbeing that will continue to benefit the college for years to come.
We are grateful for the dedication, warmth, and expertise Anne-Marie has brought to our community, and we wish her every happiness in her retirement.
Thank you, Anne-Marie—you will be greatly missed.
