6 NatMatSci Students Achieve Prestigious Roentgenium Awards in Cambridge Chemistry Challenge

Six outstanding NatMatSci students have achieved the prestigious Roentgenium Award in the University of Cambridge’s Chemistry Challenge, placing them among the very highest-performing students in the country.

Winston, Mikkii, Chloe, Guangjia, Jane and Valarie were recognised for their exceptional performance in this year’s competition, which saw 15,736 students from 1,050 schools take part.

The Cambridge Chemistry Challenge is designed to stretch Year 12 students beyond the school curriculum, challenging them to apply their chemistry knowledge to unfamiliar and demanding, university-level problems.

The Roentgenium Award is reserved for approximately the top 0.4% of entrants, making the achievement of all six students particularly remarkable.

The success also continues an impressive record for NatMatSci. The school has produced at least one student performing at approximately this level every year it has entered the competition.

As part of the award, students performing within the top tier are invited to the Roentgenium Camp, a fully funded residential at the University of Cambridge. This year, Mikkii, Chloe and Guangjia were among those invited, spending the week immersed in chemistry and university life alongside other high-achieving young chemists.

The residential provides students with the opportunity to explore chemistry beyond the classroom, learn from others and connect with fellow students who share their passion for the subject.

The achievement is a testament to the hard work, curiosity and dedication of all six students.

Congratulations to Winston, Mikkii, Chloe, Guangjia, Jane and Valarie on this outstanding achievement.
