As a 21st century STEM college we are committed to the development of computer scientists, so we are delighted to announce the latest addition to the NatMatSci team – our new Head of Computing, Martyn Colliver.
Dr Andy Kemp, Principal, said of Martyn’s appointment:
“The National Mathematics and Science College couldn’t have asked for a more inspirational and experienced Computer Science teacher, Martyn is truly exceptional and at the top of his field. We can’t wait to see how he will take our work in this area to the next level and inspire the next generation of computer scientists through the College”
Martyn is a senior examiner for a UK examination board. Having started as an examiner he moved onto becoming a principal examiner writing and leading the examining team for one of the A-level Computer Science papers. Currently he is the principal moderator for A-level Computer Science and a lead assessment writer for the iGCSE.
In his teaching Martyn enjoys linking as much theory to practical experience as possible. He has a keen interest in robotics and with a sponsorship from the Department for Education, SONY and the University of Warwick researched into how practical experience can help ground skills when learning to program. Martyn enjoys encouraging students to work with upcoming technologies and this has included using development releases of equipment such as the Oculus Rift.
Martyn enjoys working with other teachers, centres and organisations. He is a member of the A-level subject practitioner panel for the NCCE, has helped curate resources for Isaac Computing, an active member of CAS and has run many courses training centres and teachers for A-level computer science.
