NatMatSci’s Outstanding Achievement in the British Biology Olympiad: A Record-Breaking Medal Haul
We are thrilled to share our students’ success in the British Biology Olympiad (BBO) this year! In what has been a record-breaking performance, NatMatSci students have truly outdone themselves, securing our biggest medal haul ever in the competition.
Out of 35 talented NatMatSci A-level biologists who participated in the competition, an impressive 9 students secured gold medals 🏅, 11 earned silver 🥈, and 6 received bronze 🥉. But what makes this achievement even more remarkable is the comparison to the national results.
Gold medals in the British Biology Olympiad are awarded to the top 5% of participants in the UK. So when we say that our students have excelled, we mean they’ve achieved gold at a rate 5 times higher than the national average. In fact, NatMatSci has 29% of its Year 2 A-level students and 24% of its Year 1 A-level students achieving this highest accolade, compared to the national 5% threshold.
But the success doesn’t stop here! Seven of our students have earned the chance to progress to the first round of the International Biology Olympiad (IBO), where they will compete against the brightest biology students from across the world. This is an incredible opportunity for them to showcase their skills and knowledge on a global stage, and it’s a fantastic step towards becoming one of the four students chosen to represent the UK in the IBO, which will be held later this year in the Philippines.
